FRUIT – Fresh bananas, and fresh strawberries are the way to go with this recipe. Bananas help add thickness to the float, while strawberries add sweet flavor.

ICE CREAM – Vanilla ice cream is used, as per traditional ice cream floats.

SODA – Club soda gives this drink the bubbly carbonated zing.

SIMPLE SYRUP – Regular store-bought simple syrup works to add flavor and sweetness to your float. You could try the strawberry simple syrup we use in our Strawberry Sweet Tea post too if you’d like to kick it up a notch. If you are not a fan of simple syrup, try honey in its place.

Can I use a different kind of ice cream?

Sure, you can use whatever ice cream you’d like for this float. Sorbet might be a good choice! Others may enjoy frozen yogurt instead of ice cream as well.

Can I use frozen strawberries?

Yes, you will have no problem using frozen strawberries. Using frozen berries will most likely result in a thicker float, and may resemble more of a slushie consistency.

Can I use a different soda?

Yes, there are many options you can choose aside from club soda for this recipe. Though seltzer water is very similar to club soda, some may prefer the taste of one over the other. For adults, you can use an alcohol-based seltzer. Even a lemon-lime soda like 7UP or Sprite would be worth experimenting with.
