This recipe offers a delightful twist on a classic breakfast staple, making it an absolute must-have for the holiday season. Imagine sinking your teeth into a warm, aromatic waffle, infused with the rich, creamy essence of eggnog, and elevated by a homemade vanilla spice syrup that perfectly captures the spirit of winter. It’s not just breakfast; it’s an experience, a cozy moment that brings the family together during the most wonderful time of the year.
For my husband, Matt, and me, Sunday mornings have always been synonymous with homemade waffles. It’s a cherished ritual, a pause in our busy week where we reconnect and relax. With November upon us and Thanksgiving just around the corner, we decided it was the perfect time to infuse our weekend breakfasts with some extra holiday cheer. This mouthwatering Eggnog Waffles recipe has quickly become our favorite way to kick off the festive season, filling our home with irresistible aromas and our hearts with joy.

Family traditions hold immense importance for both Matt and me. Now, with the arrival of our beautiful daughter, Evie, these moments together have become even more precious and meaningful. Our Sunday waffle tradition transcends a simple meal; it’s about nurturing our bond, creating lasting memories, and finding tranquility amidst the hustle and bustle of daily life, work, and endless obligations.

This holiday season marks our very first as parents! As we eagerly prepare for all the upcoming festivities, I find myself imagining all the wonderful memories we’ll create with Evie in the years to come: dreaming up new Christmas dinner ideas, baking festive cookies together, meticulously decorating the Christmas tree, and, of course, continuing our beloved tradition of enjoying delicious family meals every Sunday. These decadent Eggnog Waffles are just the beginning of many holiday feasts we’ll share.
Of course, for now, we’ll have to wait until she’s old enough to enjoy solid foods! Until then, Matt and I – and perhaps a few lucky brunch guests – will be happily savoring these fluffy Eggnog Waffles throughout the holidays.

Tips for Perfect Eggnog Waffles
- Don’t Overmix: Mix the batter until just combined. A few lumps are perfectly fine and will lead to more tender waffles. Overmixing develops the gluten in the flour, resulting in tough waffles.
- Hot Waffle Iron: Ensure your waffle iron is fully preheated before pouring the batter. A hot iron guarantees a crispy exterior.
- Generously Grease: Even non-stick waffle irons benefit from a light spray of non-stick cooking spray to prevent sticking and aid in that beautiful golden crisp.
- Ingredient Quality Matters: As emphasized, using a high-quality eggnog like Hood makes a noticeable difference in flavor and richness.
- Serve Immediately: Waffles are best served hot off the iron. If making a large batch, you can keep them warm in a single layer on a baking sheet in an oven set to a low temperature (around 200°F / 95°C).
- Storage: Leftover waffles can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2-3 days, or frozen for up to a month. Reheat in a toaster, toaster oven, or even the waffle iron for best results.

Course: Breakfast
Cuisine: American
Prep Time: 5 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 15 minutes
Eggnog Waffles are crisp and golden on the outside and fluffy on the inside, topped with whipped cream and spiced vanilla syrup!
Ingredients
- 1 large egg
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/4 cups Hood Golden Eggnog
- 1/2 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 4 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Spiced Vanilla Syrup (for serving)
- Whipped Cream or Ice Cream (for serving)
- ground nutmeg, for garnish
Instructions
- Preheat your waffle iron. In a large bowl, beat the egg with a hand beater until fluffy. Gradually beat in the flour, eggnog, milk, melted butter, sugar, baking powder, salt, and vanilla extract until just smooth. Be careful not to overmix.
- Lightly spray the preheated waffle iron with non-stick cooking spray. Pour the batter onto the hot waffle iron, spreading evenly if needed. Cook until golden brown and steam stops rising (cooking time will vary depending on your waffle iron, usually 3-5 minutes). Serve immediately while hot, topped with homemade Spiced Vanilla Syrup, a generous dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of ice cream, and a dash of freshly ground nutmeg for garnish.
Notes
- I use this waffle maker, and this recipe yields two Belgian-sized waffles.
- You can substitute Hood Golden Eggnog for one of their other delicious flavors, such as Vanilla or Light Eggnog, for a subtle variation in taste.
