Crockpot Chocolate Cherry Cobbler

Dump cake. Cobbler. Black Forest. Doesn’t really matter what you call it, I call it amazing. Delicious. Lip smacking! Should I go on? I love crockpot desserts because you can set it and forget it for a while, in this case, four hours.

So a few hours before starting dinner, toss the ingredients into the slow cooker and set it. After dinner, you’ll open the lid and scoop out the piping hot deliciousness. I know! You’re welcome!

How to Make Chocolate Cherry Cobbler in the Crockpot

I promise this could not be easier. Really. All you have to do is melt some butter, put pie filling in the crockpot, dump chocolate cake mix on the top and cover with melted butter. Cover and cook. That’s it, folks.

Questions People Ask Me

Over the years I’ve received a bunch of questions about making my apple cobbler in the crockpot. Here are some of the most common question.

Can I use different pie fillings or cake flavors?

Yes, of course! Please experiment with your favorite flavors. Be sure to come back here and tell me what you’ve discovered. I think chocolate cake would be great with strawberry, raspberry or even blueberry pie filling too. And cherry pie filling would pair great with white cake mix too!

Can I use fresh cherries?

Well, it would be a lot more work and this wouldn’t be a super easy recipe any longer, but you certainly could. You’d have to wash and pit the cherries and probably toss them with maybe some cinnamon sugar. Or you could make your own cherry pie filling!

What about gluten free and dairy free?

There are several gluten free cake mixes out there. I haven’t tried them but would imagine they would behave in a similar fashion. Would love to hear if you try it! For dairy, instead of butter, you can use an equal amount of margarine or any of the numerous butter substitutes on the market.

Can this be made in an Instant Pot?

Yes, use the same instructions. Cook on low for four hours.

Can I save the leftovers?

Yes, store leftovers in a storage container with a lid in the refrigerator. The refrigerated cake will feel hard. Simply heat it in the microwave for a minute or two and it will return to it’s gooey glory.
