Essential Stuffed Pizza Rolls Ingredients
Crafting these delectable Stuffed Pizza Rolls requires a handful of simple ingredients, most of which you likely already have in your pantry or can easily find at any grocery store. The magic begins with **crescent rolls**, which serve as a brilliant shortcut to a soft, buttery, and incredibly flaky crust, offering a delightful alternative to traditional pizza dough. This choice saves time and effort while delivering a superior texture that perfectly complements the fillings.
To infuse that quintessential pizza flavor, you’ll need a blend of dried oregano or your preferred pizza seasoning, along with a touch of red pepper flakes for a subtle hint of warmth. The core of the filling features classic pepperoni slices and convenient mozzarella cheese sticks. Mozzarella cheese sticks are particularly recommended as they melt beautifully and create that desirable gooey, stretchy cheese pull everyone loves in a pizza. Their shape also makes them incredibly easy to work with when rolling.
A crucial element that enhances the flavor and appearance of these homemade pizza rolls is melted butter. Brushed generously before and after baking, the butter contributes to their golden-brown color and irresistible aroma. Finally, a sprinkle of fresh parsley adds a touch of vibrant green for garnish, while your favorite pizza sauce becomes the essential accompaniment for dipping, completing the authentic pizza experience.

How To Make Easy Pepperoni Rolls
Making these easy pepperoni rolls is a straightforward process that yields incredibly delicious results. Follow these simple steps for perfect, golden-brown pizza rolls every time.
Step 1: Prepare Your Workspace and Oven. Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C). While the oven heats up, prepare a large baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper. This simple step prevents sticking and makes cleanup a breeze. Parchment paper ensures that the buttery crescent rolls don’t adhere to the pan, allowing them to bake evenly and achieve that desired golden crust.
Step 2: Unroll and Season the Crescent Dough. Carefully unroll the crescent roll dough. Each can typically contains 8 triangles. Gently separate them. Brush each triangle evenly with about 2 tablespoons of melted salted butter. The butter not only adds richness but also helps the seasonings adhere. After brushing, sprinkle each triangle generously with dried oregano or pizza seasoning, and a pinch of red pepper flakes for a touch of zing. Distribute the seasonings evenly across the dough for balanced flavor in every bite.
Step 3: Add the Toppings. On the wider end of each crescent roll triangle, place three slices of pepperoni. Overlapping them slightly can help contain the filling. Next, add half a mozzarella cheese stick directly on top of the pepperoni. While shredded mozzarella can be used, the cheese stick halves tend to roll up more neatly and prevent cheese from oozing out excessively during baking, resulting in a cleaner, more satisfying roll.
Step 4: Roll and Seal the Pizza Rolls. This step is key to keeping all that delicious filling inside. First, fold the longer sides of the crescent roll triangle inward over the cheese and pepperoni. This creates a secure pocket. Then, starting from the wider, filled end, carefully roll the crescent dough toward the narrow tip. Once rolled, pinch the seams tightly to seal the edges completely, ensuring that the cheese and pepperoni are fully enclosed. This prevents the filling from escaping as the cheese melts in the oven.
Step 5: Arrange and Butter Again. Place the sealed pizza rolls on your prepared baking sheet, ensuring they are spaced at least 2 inches apart. This allows for proper air circulation, which helps them bake evenly and prevents them from sticking together. Before baking, brush the tops of the rolls again with the remaining melted butter (about 1 tablespoon). This second coat of butter contributes to their beautiful golden-brown color and adds an extra layer of flavor and flakiness.
Step 6: Bake to Golden Perfection. Bake the rolls in the preheated oven for 12 to 15 minutes, or until they turn a beautiful golden brown and the cheese inside is bubbly and melted. Keep an eye on them towards the end of the baking time, as oven temperatures can vary. Once golden, remove them from the oven. For a final touch of shine and flavor, brush them one last time with any remaining melted butter, then garnish with fresh, chopped parsley for a pop of color and herbaceous freshness.
Serve these delectable Stuffed Pizza Rolls immediately with your favorite warm pizza sauce for dipping. Enjoy the crispy, flaky exterior giving way to a gooey, cheesy, pepperoni-filled interior!

Pizza Seasoning Substitutions and Variations
While dried oregano and red pepper flakes create a classic pizza flavor, feel free to get creative with your seasonings! If you don’t have pizza seasoning on hand, **Italian seasoning** is an excellent alternative. To enhance that traditional pizza taste, you can add a pinch of onion powder and garlic powder to your Italian seasoning blend. For a more adventurous palate, consider sprinkling in a dash of dried basil, a hint of fennel seeds for a subtle anise flavor reminiscent of Italian sausage, or even a tiny bit of smoked paprika for depth. Experimenting with different herb and spice combinations allows you to customize these Stuffed Pizza Rolls to your family’s preferences.
Pizza Dough vs. Crescent Rolls: Exploring Crust Options
While crescent rolls are our go-to for their unparalleled flakiness and ease of use, you can certainly experiment with other doughs. If you prefer a chewier crust, you can absolutely use **store-bought pizza dough** instead of crescent rolls. Simply roll out the pizza dough and cut it into triangles similar in size to crescent roll dough. Follow the same recipe instructions for filling and rolling. Be aware that the baking time may vary when using pizza dough; it might require a few extra minutes in the oven to cook through and achieve a golden-brown finish. Alternatively, for an even richer, puffier crust, consider using **puff pastry**. Unroll it, cut it into squares or triangles, fill, and bake as directed, keeping an eye on the baking time as puff pastry cooks quickly and becomes incredibly airy and golden.
Melted Butter vs. Olive Oil: Why Butter Wins for Flaky Rolls
The recipe calls for melted butter brushed onto the crescent rolls before and after baking, and for good reason. We highly recommend sticking with **melted butter** over olive oil for this recipe. Butter provides a rich, creamy flavor and contributes significantly to the golden-brown color and delicate flakiness of the crescent rolls. Olive oil, especially extra virgin olive oil, has a much stronger, more distinct flavor profile that would likely alter the delicate taste of these pizza rolls. The nutty, sometimes peppery notes of olive oil could clash with the classic pizza flavors, whereas butter enhances them beautifully, creating a more harmonious and satisfying bite. For the best possible outcome and that signature buttery crust, stick to salted butter.
How To Store and Reheat Leftover Stuffed Pizza Rolls
If you happen to have any of these delicious homemade pizza rolls leftover (which is a rare occurrence!), storing them properly is key to enjoying them later. These rolls will remain fresh and delicious for up to 5 days when stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Make sure they are completely cooled before transferring them to the container to prevent condensation and sogginess.
When it comes to reheating, the goal is to bring back that crispy exterior and melty, gooey interior. We recommend reheating them in the oven at 350°F (175°C) until the filling is heated through and the cheese is re-melted, which usually takes about 10-15 minutes. This method helps restore some of their original crispness. You can also use an air fryer for a similar effect, heating them at 350°F for 3-5 minutes. While you can microwave them for convenience, be aware that microwaving might make the crescent roll dough a bit softer and less crispy than oven reheating, though the cheese will still melt perfectly.

Pizza is undeniably a beloved meal, and while traditional pies are always a hit, it’s incredibly fun to occasionally branch out and explore different ways to enjoy those classic flavors.
