Why this recipe works
If you’ve seen all the awesome football party trays floating around the internet, but decided against making it because of how intricate they look, then this is the recipe for you.
We wanted to go the simple route with this tray so it wasn’t an overwhelming experience. You can use store-bought guacamole, chip dip, or hummus to save some time.
If you’d like homemade dips on your tray, see our Guacamole, Hummus, and Skinny French Onion Dip!

How to Make A Football Party Tray
First, you will want two different sized serving platters. A large one that is big enough to fit all the snacks and dippers around the rim, and one smaller one that can easily fit in the middle of the large tray.
These step by step photos and instructions are here to help you visualize how to make this recipe. You can Jump to Recipe to get the printable version of this recipe, complete with measurements and instructions at the bottom.
- Spread your guacamole evenly across the small tray.

- Once guacamole is smooth and flat, fill a piping bag (or a sandwich bag with the tip cut off) with sour cream. Create lines using the sour cream as you’d see on a football field with the middle being the 50-yard line.
- Take plastic wrap and lay it on each end of the tray and shape it to create a rectangular bowl. You will need a couple of layers to help it stay in place. Fill one side with hummus, and one side with French onion dip. Alternatively, you can easily add the “end zone dips” to the same tray the guacamole is on so it’s all together.

- Fill the outer tray with different options of dippers. Examples include cherry tomatoes, celery, radish, carrots, pretzels, tortilla chips, pita bread, etc. The options are endless!

- Optionally, you can use green olives and black olives as the two teams on the field by placing them along the yard line on each side.

Feel free to get creative with the dips you use. You could include a fruit dip on one side if you’d like to serve the platter with fruit, our cream cheese fruit dip would work great for that!
This football party tray is the perfect appetizer for game day get-togethers. Impress your guests with this easy to make platter of snacks! Serve alongside ham and cheese sliders for game day and your guests will rave about your spread!
